Log expenses with Siri and the Add Transaction shortcut

Nethaven publishes an Add Transaction action to the iOS Shortcuts app and to Siri. It records an expense in the background: the app never opens, and Siri confirms out loud with a line like "Added Tesco to Groceries". Say "Add a transaction in NetHaven", or run the action from the Shortcuts app, a Home Screen icon, the Action button, or a Back Tap.

The action takes four fields. Amount is required and carries its own currency. Merchant Name, Account, and Notes are optional. The Account field is a live dropdown of your manual accounts only, because a Plaid or SnapTrade account already receives the same purchase through bank sync and would end up with a duplicate.

Two things must exist before the first run, or the action returns an error instead of a transaction: you must have opened Nethaven and signed in at least once, and you need at least one manual account.

Every shortcut transaction is logged as an expense on your main budget, filed under a category called Uncategorized that Nethaven creates the first time it is needed. Nothing is guessed, so recategorizing during your normal review is part of the routine. Pick the account you want from the dropdown; if the name does not match one of your manual accounts the action reports the error rather than logging to the wrong place.
